One Church's Closure Helps Scores of Nonprofits

Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenville, NC closed its doors in September 2024, citing an aging population and declining attendance. The church once boasted as many as 500 members. According to the Daily Reflector, the church used the building’s sale proceeds—about $1.5 million—to make significant donations to nearly 70 charities.
According to North Carolina law, when a nonprofit organization dissolves, remaining assets to be distributed to other nonprofits. Through it's donations, the church supported causes like food security, education, hospice care, and domestic violence prevention.
During the church’s final service, Pastor Dr. Greg Rogers prayed for the prosperity of all involved. The church was sold to the fast-growing, nondenominational Winterville’s Opendoor Church.
